Why use e-portfolios?

We needed to increase our throughput of NVQs in order to meet government targets. We knew that we wouldn't meet these targets if we continued with our traditional paper-based method of assessment.

An e-portfolio project team was set up, meeting on a weekly basis where tasks were delegated and internal issues addressed and documented. Resolved issues were reported back to the project manager, and logged. We realised that we needed this kind of process to roll the project out city-wide.

Why choose Learning Assistant's e-portfolio system?

With business requirements and expectations determined, Birmingham City Council's team looked at a number of e-portfolio systems. We chose Learning Assistant because it was the most user-friendly, and the price was right. The customer support is great, and the system is both secure and reliable.

Easy to use?

Learning Assistant has considerably decreased the time taken to complete a portfolio. For example, a level 2 paper-based NVQ used to take 18 months, but with Learning Assistant, two candidates completed their awards in 4 months, with others finishing in 5-6 months.

What do candidates think of Learning Assistant's e-portfolio?

The feedback from candidates has been very positive. All have enjoyed the experience of electronic learning, even those who had never used a computer before. Candidates have found the system easy to understand and use.
