Why use e-portfolios?

At Leeds City Council, e-portfolio NVQs were introduced in response to demand from candidates, who wanted to submit more and more evidence by email. Assessors were also asking for a paperless option, as the growing numbers of portfolios were becoming difficult to manage.

Why choose Learning Assistant's e-portfolio system?

Having made comparisons with other systems, we found that Learning Assistant was the "Rolls Royce" of all e-portfolio systems. Following a demonstration, assessors were extremely keen to get started. Leeds City Council now uses Learning Assistant to deliver a range of qualifications including courses in Business Administration, Call Centre Operations, Customer Service, Learning and Development, and Management.

What do candidates think of Learning Assistant's
e-portfolio?

Neil Morrisroe, studying Management Level 4, said: "The e-portfolio was an easy-to-use learning aid, which suited my style of working. I found the software very user friendly, and had no problems uploading evidence."

Rebecca Moore, studying Management Level 3, said: "I'd heard from others about all the paperwork they had to accumulate as evidence in a portfolio, so when Chris explained I could now complete all my evidence online, I was very relieved! I really think the system is a brilliant way to streamline how NVQs are completed and assessed."

Easy to use?

The ease of access and ease of matrixing evidence makes all the difference for candidates and assessors. All units can be viewed on screen and cross-referencing is much easier than before. Using Learning Assistant's e-portfolio system is not a difficult process: we simply hold a short introductory session for new candidates and assessors. The system really is that simple.

Learning Assistant's customer support is extremely helpful. No problem is too small, with a very quick response time. We are able to contact Learning Assistant by phone and e-mail, and receive excellent service at all times. The system requires no specialist IT skills, just simple file management ability. If you can send email attachments, you can use this e-portfolio.

Value for money?

The introduction of Learning Assistant's system fitted Leeds City Council's e-strategy. We took Learning Assistant's offer of a large quantity of candidate places at a discounted rate. This offered a good deal to the Council. Using Learning Assistant's e-portfolio makes the NVQ process smoother, and less cumbersome for candidates.

How will you take things forward?

In the future, we intend to keep developing the use of NVQ e-portfolios. Basically, where there's a demand for the e-portfolio, we'll make sure it's available.
