A number of Centres have requested that we make it easier for candidates to get in touch with Assessors, and vice versa. So, we've developed a simple tool that can do just that.
Learning Assistant's new Message Centre, allows informal and private communication between the Candidate and their Assessor.
Easy to use!
All the user has to do is navigate to their Message Centre, type in the message and choose who to send the message to. Candidates are able to send messages to their Assessor, whilst Assessors will be able to send messages to all their Candidates. Additional features include the ability for users to have their own photograph or icon, identifying themselves. Users are able to manage their messages using the archive and delete function. Candidates' comments can be automatically copied into the Contact Diary, the formal audit trail of the e-portfolio.
As with all new features in Learning Assistant, each centre will find their own way of making this tool work for them. The Message Centre will remove the need for candidates to post comments in the Contact Diary, as some presently have the ability to.
Do you need the Message Centre?
It can be switched on or off, meaning there is no obligation to use this tool if you don't see a need for it.

Prince Andrew meets the staff at Moray Firth Radio
The Certificate in Radio Broadcasting is one of a kind: it's the only vocationally based qualification for 'beginner' radio presenters in the whole of the UK. Candidates undertake hands-on work experience in radio broadcasting, which counts towards Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) certification.
"When we started with the certificate we very quickly realised that paper-based portfolios were quite an onerous task. In a radio station much of what we do is verbal and recorded in audio files using the most up-to-date IT. Turnaround is quick. Candidates found the paper-based portfolio system fairly alien in comparison to the type of work we do daily. We decided to use Learning Assistant as this readily matched what we needed."
Liz McIntyre, Moray Firth Media Trust
